About LIEF
For many years the Corporate Trustees were Liverpool City Council, but in August 2002 a scheme drawn up by the Charity Commissioner came into effect amalgamating the main fund with a number of small associated scholarship funds. The scheme superseded the original trusts of the charities and henceforth the charity is to be administered as one fund.
The object of the charity as defined by the Charity Commission in August 2002 is to promote the education of persons who:
-
Are under 25 years of age
-
Are in need of financial assistance
-
Are, or whose parents are, resident in the City of Liverpool
-
Have attended a school in the City of Liverpool
Additional Information:
Only former Pupils attending schools in Liverpool can receive awards. They, or their parents must reside in one of the electoral wards in the city.
To apply for a grant you do not necessarily have to attend one of the Higher Education establishments in Liverpool. You can be doing your course anywhere in the country.

Awards Made
At present the trustees are able to make awards of £250, £350 and £500. These sums may be increased in the future if financial circumstances permit.
Regretfully, the trustees are unable to make awards for repeat applications and second degrees. Therefore only one award will be made to each successful applicant.
Since its establishment LIEF awards have totalled over £500,000.
